SAFEGUARDING

Insurance

I have Oxygen professional liability insurance provided by Marsh Commercial.

Disclosure & Barring Service

I have a current Enhanced DBS Certificate as an independent Educational Psychologist through the British Psychological Society. I subscribe to the on-line DBS Update Service.

My practice generally is guided by the BPS Code of Ethics and Conduct (2021), BPS Safeguarding Children and Young People: Every Psychologists Responsibility (2018), the HCPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics (2024) and national guidance (KCFiE Working together to Safeguard Children, 2023, 2026).

The aim of all my work is to help the child or young person. If I feel at any point that my involvement is detrimental to the child in any way or the child does not want to engage, I will stop my involvement and explain my reasons to you and we can discuss next steps. You also have the right to withdraw consent at any time.

I have a duty of care to the children I work with to keep them safe. If I thought a child was in any kind of danger and would be harmed, or cause harm to others, I would need to follow the correct Safeguarding procedures, which could include disclosing some information about them or intervene in some way without parental consent.

If my concern arose whilst working with a child or young person at their educational setting, I would report my concerns to the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) who would follow their safeguarding procedure. However, if my concern arose whilst working with them at home, I would contact the Local Safeguarding Partnership from the local authority in which they lived. They must follow policies and procedures for child protection in their area in line with legislation and government guidance, but they may use different systems.

Complaints Procedure

If you are unhappy with the service I provide, please talk to me about it so that we can arrive at a solution that meets your needs. If this happens, I will add a note about this to the child’s file so that there is a record of our conversation (you can see this if you wish). However, if you wish to make a formal complaint about the nature of my work, you should raise your concerns with the HCPC, which is the supervisory authority for practitioner psychologists.

If you wish to make a complaint about the way I have handled your personal information, you should contact the ICO, which is the supervisory authority for data and information.
